Capperi! With an exclamation offers an obvious concept. Traditional Italian food and pizza in Barrio Italia? Yes please. The owner is a genuine Italian expat, and although he seemed a little tired of the trivialities related to restauranteering, his story and passion for cuisine painted a persuasive background for this delicious spot.
This restaurant is well located in the trendy parts of Barrio Italia and includes a nice atmosphere with a very reasonable food and wine menu.
We started our meal with Rome’s favorite fried street food “Suppli.” This is a fried risotto rice ball with mozzarella cheese. Another variant includes little shrimp bits making a salty, crunchy, and cheesy snack.
A quick followup is the “Pimientones Asado.” A dish of cooked peppers in a garlic olive oil with mozzarella and a basket of flat bread. The spicy garlic and sweet/savory peppers offer an evocative taste thats great to share. Just watch out for garlic breath.
Also a fresh “Eggplant Lasagna” may not seem like an obvious choice of an appetizer, but I would argue that its delicate texture and acidic sauce is perfect to share with another person. A sandwiching of mozzarella provides the pep for this veggie dish.

The “Margherita Pizza” served at Capperi! is a killer pizza. This iteration has a big glob of creamy cheesy Burrata in the middle. The dough is soft and smooth with a vibrant layer of tomato sauce and parmesan. All in all its a must for your visit.
Their iteration of the “Spaghetti Carbonara” does the dish justice. Spaghetti al dente with just the right amount of butter and cracked pepper. Thick cubes of fatty Italian pork and shaved parmesan stand atop offering you a pleasing dish.
The “Gnocchi Pesto” is a flavorful and darker version of the standard dish. This potato pasta has a good creamy texture to contrast the oily and potent pesto. Add a little shaved parmesan and your good to go!
Finally the “Ravioli Del Mar” is a unique and well balanced seafood ravioli with a signature style of fish shaped ravioli. Mussels, clams, and shrimp can sometimes overwhelm a pasta dish, but for me this entree has just the right amount of flavors to please.
If you happen to be in the area looking for delicious Italian food and pizza in Barrio Italia, then consider Capperi! This is a nice location perfect for an intimate dinner or a tasty hang out with friends. Seems like an obvious choice to me.
